JABONGA, Agusan del Norte- The Rotary International, Rotary Club of Pasay-Edsa and the Rotary Club of Metro Butuan on Monday launched “Adopt A School” project in this town in cooperation with local government unit (LGU) officials of this town headed by Mayor Glicerio Monton and other officials.

The beneficiary is Barangay Magsaysay Elementary School of this town where two classrooms and a library will be built.

On top of the construction of said school edifices that are climate change adaptive models, Rotary will provide school equipment and facilities like six computers, photo copier, LCD projector and library furniture.

One of the highlights of the launching was signing rites of the quad-partite memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Rotary Club of Metro Butuan, Rotary Community Corps of Magsaysay, Department of Education (DepEd’s) Agusan del Norte Schools Division and the project beneficiary, Magsaysay Elementary School.

The simple and austere accord signing last June 18 here was followed by groundbreaking rites witnessed personally by Monton, Councilor Sebastian Bermudez Sr. and Agusan del Norte Schools Division Superintendent Arsenio Cornites Jr.

The Barangay Magsaysay Adopt A School project was the third community outreach program jointly sponsored by Rotary Club of Hollister, California, U.S.A. District 5170 through Assistant Governor Larry Barr and the Rotary Club of Metro Butuan.

The first was in barangay NongNong in Butuan City and in Sitio Tabon, barangay Aclan in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte where quality reference library materials and computer equipment were donated by Rotary International to support quality education in remote communities where no other agencies dared to go, Rotary Club of Metro Butuan Charter President Abelardo Garcia said.

Cornites, in his inspirational speech during the launching rites, said he also took cognizance of the Rotary’s peace-building outreach in Hinandayan and Jaguimitan villages of Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.

Soon this year, in a remote barangay Tagabaca, Butuan City is another Adopt-A-School Project for launching funded under the Rotary Foundation Matching Grant Program.

The LGU of Jabonga through Monton, Rotary Community Corps of Magsaysay and Magsaysay Elementary School head Marpe Boco expressed gratitude to Rotary International and Rotary Club of Metro Butuan for choosing barangay Magsaysay as one of the beneficiaries of Rotary’s Adopt-A-School Project.

Rotary Club of Metro Butuan newly-elected president Rogel Lausa and other RCMB members and officials present including the wife of RCMB Charter President Abelardo Garcia, Lita Garcia, who were instrumental in the success of the launching, also thanked the people of barangay Magsaysay in their show of cooperation for the Rotary project.

After the groundbreaking ceremonies, Rotarians headed by Bermudez; New Generation Director Claudette Aguilar and Club Membership Director Jhoanna Garcia distributed toothbrushes to Magsaysay Elementary School children and the handing over of sports equipment to Buco.
